Hyundai, Lowe’s, and Nationwide Sponsor First Look at HD Field Coverage
Storm Tracker Jim Cantore is appearing in live HD shots during WeatherREADY Hurricane Preparedness Week sponsored by Hyundai, Lowe’s Home Improvement and Nationwide Insurance. The series, which will air during the network’s SD/HD simulcast of Evening Edition, will offer tips, information and demonstrations of ways to prepare for this year’s hurricane season.
On Tuesday, Cantore – well-known for his coverage from the harshest of weather conditions -- will be in Gulf Shores, AL, for an interview with a homeowner who has retrofitted his home to make it safe from the type of hurricane damage that occurred as a result of Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
All of these field reports will be shot with an HD camera and uplinked back to The Weather Channel via the network’s HD-equipped satellite truck. As activity accelerates during this year’s hurricane season, The Weather Channel will use its state-of-the-art HD capabilities to catch the action.
Hyundai, Lowe’s Home Improvement, and Nationwide Insurance are exclusive category partners for WeatherReady Hurricane Preparedness Week. Other topics will be covered in taped segments airing Wednesday through Friday. These will include: do’s and don’ts of evacuation, measures to take in advance to prepare the household for a hurricane, and also measures to take after a storm has occurred. The two-minute segments will be “teased” each night with questions about hurricanes posed by on-camera meteorologists and answered later in the show.
