34 Million Viewers Tune in for Information about Late-Winter Storm
As March 1 brought snow to the Southeast and a major winter storm swept up the East Coast, The Weather Channel reached 34 million unduplicated viewers, achieving the largest cume of any cable news and information network according to Nielsen research.*
In the desirable 25-54 demo, The Weather Channel ranked Number One in total day ratings among other cable news and information networks. The Weather Channel achieved a 0.5 total day (3 a.m.-3 a.m.) average rating on Sunday.**
Viewer reliance on the network for weather information became evident early in the day as people turned to Weekend View to check on the latest severe weather developments and then continued watching as the winter storm system traveled northeastward. Weekend View (from 7 a.m.-11 a.m. ET) achieved an average household rating of 0.8. Ratings peaked in the 9-9:15 a.m. quarter hour with a 0.9 rating representing 892,000 households.
March 1 was also a record-breaking day for the weather.com site online and on Mobile Web, according to internal numbers. The site saw its highest number of user page views ever seen on a Sunday - page views were 40 percent higher than the previous record Sunday. The Weather Channel Mobile Web site also saw its highest ever single-day numbers for page views and unique visitors.
