With fall approaching and temperatures dipping, DISH customers now have access to hyper-local forecasts with the launch of a new interactive weather app from The Weather Channel®. The app offers hourly forecasts by zip code, enabling users to plan their day, while a seven-day forecast provides information to plan the week.
Accessible from channel 213 on DISH’s VIP model set-top boxes, the always-on app also features:
- Functionality that positions The Weather Channel network in the upper right corner of the TV screen
- A ‘Favorites’ feature that gives viewers the ability to save other cities or zip codes to check a forecast for an upcoming vacation or to see how friends and family are faring with weather conditions
- Severe weather alerts and radar
“DISH launched its first weather app on set-top boxes more than nine years ago,” said Jimshade Chaudhari, DISH director of product management. “Since this debut, we have continued to work with The Weather Channel to develop innovative enhancements that give our customers easy access to the best real-time weather data when they need it.”
“DISH customers have asked us for more weather information, and adding an additional app was the best way to fulfill that request,” said Jennifer Dangar, chief strategy officer and president, distribution, The Weather Channel. “Combining the most accurate hyper-local forecasts with the best severe weather coverage available will make this app a favorite for DISH customers.”
The Weather Channel continues to be available to DISH customers in full screen on channel 214, delivering on-demand local weather data, newly enhanced graphics and weather icons, increased categories of weather data and expanded details for weather alerts. DISH’s Hopper® Whole-Home HD DVR customers can access a Weather Channel app by clicking the blue button on the remote control.
