(ATLANTA – July 27, 2017) -- Today, The Weather Channel announced a full-slate of programming for “The Total Solar Eclipse,” which will take place across the country on Monday, August 21. The network will cover the event with meteorologists broadcasting live from seven locations across the country, allowing viewers to see the eclipse in totality, no matter where they are located. The network will also deploy its award-winning augmented reality technology to take viewers into space and help those watching at home understand the science behind this once-in-a-lifetime, global astronomical phenomenon.
LIVE PROGRAMMING TAKEOVER
Starting at 6:00AM EST on Monday, August 21 and sponsored by DISH and Jeep, The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore and Stephanie Abrams will broadcast live from Madras, OR and Carbondale, IL to kick off the day-of coverage on the network’s signature morning show AMHQ. Cantore and Abrams will anchor live coverage of the eclipse as it crosses the country over the course of the day. In the days leading up to the eclipse, The Weather Channel will air an “Official Countdown to The Total Solar Eclipse” presented by DISH.
Additional meteorologists will report live from each time zone across the country and along the eclipse’s path of totality, immersing viewers in the once-in-a-lifetime experience. In partnership with Royal Caribbean, the network will broadcast live from the Total Eclipse Cruise in the Atlantic, to show viewers at home the totality of the eclipse from sea. Experts at The Weather Channel’s studio headquarters will also drive up-to-the-minute weather forecasting to show how current weather conditions, such as cloud density and rain, might impact eclipse visibility across the country.

Additional live content will be pulled from telescopes, cameras, and with live-hits from viewers at home, to help observers both in and outside of the path get their own perfect view of the eclipse. From highlighting user-generated social media content, to dialing people in via Skype calls, The Weather Channel’s viewers will be able to connect with experts and Americans across the country to see how they are marking this momentous occasion.
