The Weather Channel television network announced today it has been named the 2020 Harris Poll EquiTrend® TV News Brand of the Year for the 10th consecutive year.
Now in its 32nd year, Harris Poll EquiTrend® is an annual tracking study that measures and compares the brand health of nearly 2,000 brands across 150+ categories from automobiles to restaurants. The Weather Channel television network received the highest equity score among a subset of brands evaluated in the TV News Category.
“We’re honored that The Weather Channel has been named TV News Brand of the Year for the tenth year in a row,” said Tom O'Brien, president of The Weather Channel television network. “This unprecedented honor can be attributed to the around-the-clock work our dedicated team puts in to provide viewers with unmatched live coverage and in-depth reporting to keep our country informed and safe.”
Harris Poll EquiTrend®, conducted since 1989, measures brand health over time. The EquiTrend Brand Equity Index consists of three factors – Familiarity, Quality and Purchase Consideration – that results in a brand equity rating for each brand. Brands ranking highest in equity receive the Harris Poll EquiTrend “Brand of the Year” award for their respective categories.
The Weather Channel television network received the highest numerical Equity Score and the highest numerical score relating to Trust and Love among TV News brands included in the 2020 Harris Poll EquiTrend® Study, which is based on opinions of 39,100 U.S. consumers ages 15 and over surveyed online between January 1 and January 30, 2020. “Highest Ranked” was determined by a pure ranking of a sample of TV News brands.
Over the past year, The Weather Channel has continued pioneering new methods of broadcast presentation for real-time immersive storytelling by integrating their Emmy-award winning Immersive Mixed Reality (IMR) technology into new segments that take viewers inside of various weather environments. In March 2020, the network also launched special educational programming content for parents and kids who are at home due to school closures in the wake of COVID-19. In addition, The Weather Channel has continued their unparalleled live coverage of the most impactful severe weather events across the country, with on-camera meteorologists both in the field and in the studio.
